Which ruleset, and what you cannot undo
Forever has four rulesets and no realms. One of them locks your whole account to a single faction, permanently. Pick one to see what you would be committing to.
- NormalBoth factions. The default, and the one that forecloses nothing.
- PvPFaction lockedOne faction for the entire ruleset. Open-world conflict everywhere.
- RoleplayBoth factions, with roleplaying name rules.
- HardcoreBoth factions. Death is permanent — the character transfers out rather than dying twice.
Choosing PvP
You are choosing a side, once, for the whole ruleset.
“On the PvP ruleset, players can only create characters for one faction. Once you create an Alliance character on the PvP ruleset, you won't be able to create a Horde character there, and vice versa.”

Your full name is locked across the whole region
There are no realms. A first and last name is unique per region and reserved across every ruleset in it, so a name taken on Normal is taken on PvP too.
Assume the choice is permanent
Transfers between Normal, PvP and Roleplay have not been announced. The only confirmed path out is a Hardcore character dying, which moves it to another ruleset — including PvP.
If you are rolling with friends, agree the ruleset and the faction before anybody creates anything. On PvP it is the one decision on this site that has to be made together, because it cannot be taken back afterwards.
