Dire Maul — only one of you needs the key

Three wings behind their own portals, two of them locked — and a torch just inside that lets whoever got through open the door for everyone else. That single fact changes how a group plans this, and almost nobody knows it.

One Crescent Key opens the door for the whole group

The locked wings are named plainly: "The doors to Dire Maul West and Dire Maul North require the Crescent Key to open."

And then the sentence that changes the plan:

"Players who have already gone through the doors will be able to use the Torch on the wall just inside to open the doors for other players."

So the group needs one key, not five. Whoever has it goes through and opens the door from the inside for everybody else.

That turns a five-person problem into a one-person errand. If nobody in your group has a Crescent Key, one of you needs to chase the imp in Dire Maul East — not all of you — and the rest of the night is unblocked.

The chain itself is on the dungeon keys and attunements page; this is the part that decides how many people have to do it.

Three wings, three portals, three separate nights

"Dire Maul is divided into three wings, which are each accessed separately through their own dungeon portals."

Same trap as Scarlet Monastery: "let's do Dire Maul" has not decided anything. East, West and North are separate instances with separate lockouts, and only East is open without a key.

The order that follows from the step above: East first, because that is where the Crescent Key is — and once one person has it, West and North are both available to the whole group.

The tribute run, and the one thing we can source about it

Dire Maul North has a tribute run — a way of clearing it that leaves certain bosses alive rather than killing everything.

What we can source is narrow: "A completed Tribute Run will also allow you to purchase Gordok Green Grog and Kreeg's Stout Beatdown from Stomper Kreeg inside the instance."

What we deliberately have not written is which bosses to spare, in what order, or what each one grants. That is the substance of a tribute run and we could not source it to the standard this site holds — the guides describe it, but not in sentences we can quote without reproducing their prose, which docs/LEGAL.md §3 forbids.

So: know that a tribute run exists, that it is a different plan from a normal clear, and that it has to be agreed before the first pull. Then read a guide that covers it properly. Pretending we cover it would be worse than pointing at somebody who does.
